How Many Types of Arthritis Are There?

One question our top Rheumatologists are frequently asked is: “Just how many types of arthritis are there?”

In actuality, there are over 100 distinct autoimmune disorders & arthritis today. The most prevalent diseases that we see are OsteoarthritisPsoriatic Arthritisrheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus (also known as Systemic Lupus Erythematosus or “SLE”), Gout, and Sjogren’s Syndrome (just to name a few).

At ARBDA, we can help. Whether it’s pain in your hands, feet, wrists, or any of the other joints – our Specialists and Top Rheumatologists are dedicated to partnering with you (& your family) to provide effective treatments that are customized to help you feel better.

The Long-Term Effects of Immune-Mediated Arthritis

In general, there are a few shared long-term effects of arthritis (regardless of specific type), including:

  • Ongoing & Progressively Worse Pain
  • Deterioration & Progressive Destruction of Joints
  • Ongoing & Progressive Morning Stiffness
  • Reduced Range of Motion
  • Impairment in Activities of Daily Life

The two primary forms of arthritis are rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.  Both of which affect the body in different ways, but share a commonality that damage the body’s joints.

In RA, the immune system attacks the joint capsule lining, or synovial membrane, which becomes aggravated and swollen. Eventually, this process can destroy the cartilage and bone within the specified joint.

This is the most common form of arthritis. OA develops when there is severe wear-and-tear damage to the cartilage in a joint. Eventually, enough damage can accrue, resulting in the grinding of bone-on-bone, which causes restricted movement and pain.

How Does ARBDA Approach Arthritis Diagnosis & Treatment?

Whether you are just starting to experience painful symptoms or have been fighting arthritis for years, the top rheumatologists at ARBDA provide the latest, most advanced treatments available today.

When we are asked, how do you treat arthritis? Our back disease doctors and arthritis specialists respond with our three treatment options:

We use sound to view your joints below the skin (instead of radiation), and our trained specialists analyze the results to determine whether or not you have arthritis and which treatment(s) you require.

To treat specific areas affected by arthritis, our doctors can efficiently inject numbing medication and specific steroids to relieve pain and inflammation immediately. These services take only 10-15 minutes.

Our IDYLLIC Infusion Treatment Centers (all located within our offices throughout New Jersey) perform infusions which target specific aspects of cell inflammation. These revolutionary infusions treat inflammatory diseases in a new and effectual way while offering substantial savings (when compared to hospital-based treatments).
