Emily Purcell, M.D.

Dr. Purcell earned her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Virginia. After graduation, she participated in the prestigious Postbaccalaureate Intramural Research Training Award Program at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), where she gained valuable experience in basic scientific research. Upon completion, Dr. Purcell obtained her     medical degree (M.D.) from the University of Maryland School of Medicine.

Dr. Purcell completed her Internal Medicine training at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, followed by fellowship training in Rheumatology at the renowned University of Pennsylvania – Perelman School of Medicine. She has been in full-time clinical practice since 2021, first in Pennsylvania and, beginning in 2025, at Arthritis, Rheumatic & Bone Disease Associates.

Dr. Purcell is board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Rheumatology and provides expert care for a wide range of rheumatologic conditions. Dedicated to patient-centered treatment that emphasizes clarity and collaboration, Dr. Purcell takes pride in helping patients understand their conditions and in working collaboratively to find treatment options tailored to the unique needs of every patient.

Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Purcell enjoys teaching and mentoring medical trainees, fostering the next generation of physicians. She is an active member of both the American College of Rheumatology and the Philadelphia Rheumatism Society, reflecting her ongoing commitment to professional excellence and the advancement of rheumatology.
